Little Fatema - Age 7ish (Photo)

I have very few photos of when I was young. So I was super excited when my sister found this one, taken at school. I can hardly believe that it is me in this photo, baby teeth still in tact. Same annoying naturally tapering eye-brows. My face looks so young. Why the greasy hair? No I didn't have an accident with a tub of hair jell. I used to have super long hair that would tangle itself into a birds nest. To deal with this, my mother would cover me in coconut hair oil. This ritual continued even when my hair was cut shorter. Yes, that is right. Mother would send me to school with oil saturated hair. lol #DesiMumFail.

Thank you Heps for sending me this photo.

Love you really Mum.

My story began with Network Bangla

I may be helping an American Bangladeshi Organisation and that reminded me of how this (me now) all started.

In 2007 I helped found a Bangladeshi Non-profit organisation with three other amazing individuals, Sulthana Begum, Koyes Ahmed and Shuhel Miah. It was a wonderful time in my life. I was 22 years old and the four of us were implementing real change. We were working with Television stations and world renowned individuals. I always knew I could achieve anything I wanted, this ethos was pushed to the boundaries then and it still continued to come true. We were making some pretty cool things happen. Four normal kids from London were mobilizing a whole community, because it was something they decided to do. It took one summer to set-up and pretty much changed my life. I am from a medical background and this was the first time I was involved with Marketing of any kind. When we held our launch event it was attended by over 400 people from all over the UK and Europe.

How to shop fast & look great with a Ruby Smith.

When having to shop with limited time it is best to limit your options. I only had 2 hours to buy a dress to wear for James and Claire's wedding, now known as Mr and Mrs Smith.
I was feeling a little bloated (my post wedding weight) so I wanted something that would cover me up and squeeze everything into place.

Limitation one: Sleeves and full length

This is my first non-Desi wedding and it was safe to assume that I didn't need to wear all the colors of the rainbow and the contents of a jewellery shop

Limitation two: No jewellery + accessories

I would be travelling all the way up to Bath (2 hour drive) so it had to be transport easy

Strike a pose: Updating my FB photo.

Three made it to the cutting room floor and from that I chose one. I decided not to go with the usual smiley photo....Hmmm moody Ema doesn't feel right, might change it any minute.

About me

I have just arrived in San Francisco from the UK. The silly rules here mean I can’t be a Surgeon - they want me to go through medical school all over again; Another million years of studying followed by a billion years of training and a gazillion more exams? Erm…I DON’T think so. Join me as I find something to do and try to get to know the natives, are they really as fat as the ones on the telly?

If you want to be my friend then email me:
