Musings, Utterings and Ramblings

1920's Headbands have my head spinning.

My next visit to London is booked, it will be breif. A two week stay already packed-out with friends, family and work. One fun stop I will be making is at the Restless Beings 3rd Anniversary event (Tickets still up for grabs here).

The theme for the charity fundraiser is 1920’s and whilst trying to find a suitable outfit I have fallen crazy in love, with 1920’s headbands.

Not sure if I will feel brave enough to wear one but here are a selection for you to drool over.

New picture of Anne Hathaway as Catwoman - does it work?

Anne_hathaway_catwomen

When I heard the news I couldn't visualise it. I quickly put together this photo of Anne Hathaway as Catwomen, and I still can't see it. Will she do a Heath Leger and blow as all away? I hope so, I love Anne and I love Batman.

RT: Starship Troupers is trending on Twitter. No I don't know why either but here are some cool pics.

I have no idea why Starship Troupers is a trending topic on Twitter right now. But it did bring back memories of watching the film and laughing lots.

The human race being destroyed by big ugly bugs, and their mommy looks like enlarged womens-bits. Classy.

Anyway, here are some fun photos for a trip down memory lane.

Enjoy!

Back To School.

Backto
My poor neglected blog. How sorry I am for not updating you more often. Do not dismay any longer Bloggy, I am back to nourish you with so much content your sides are going to split!

Well, maybe not split but your tummy won't be rumbling for a few weeks.

Enough crazy Ema talk.

This year has really been intense and it's only hit day 13. Life has been super hectic but fun. However the most fun thing I've been doing recently and that I want to share with you is;

I started my Marketing Course at UC Berkley. I am LOVING going back to studying. I have had numerous roles in marketing from leading a whole department to consulting for swish clients. I have been winging it more or less. Basically being told something needs to be done, and on-the-spot-making-it-happen. Not sure how I was able to do this, just thinking about the challenges I faced makes me scared now. However at the time I never felt this fear, just my brain on repeat; "Find a solution Ema, Find a solution Ema. FIND A SOLUTION EMA!".

It is similar to action films. Where the hero feels no pain until the armageddon-style fight is over. Then a tiny scratch on his arm feels too much to bare, when the romantic love interest, tries to bandage it.

I have to say I was super lucky to have worked with amazing people, who helped me find the right solutions

Enough self-refection (it is the new year and my brain wants to ponder - must resist the urge or this post will be far too long).

I have always felt that because I have not had any formal training/education in marketing that something was missing from my knowledge stream. Studying marketing for two weeks now, I feel that I made the right decision in focusing on education. Many people have told me that there is little  value in studying marketing (with my experience), that all the needed knowledge, can be gained from books and on-the-job training. I find myself  disagreeing. The most valuable aspect of the course, thus far, is that I am able to re-organize all the information in my brain. The marketing jumbled jungle in my brain is being taken off the floor, detangled and polished. Already I am applying what I am learning to my work. I know it's early days but I can't wait to see what the next 10 weeks on this course holds.

I should add that this course has the most wonderful professors.

Gushing Over My Husband @Immad Akhund.

Immadfatema
Warning: Look away NOW if you do not want to witness yukky public displays of affection.

I manage Immad's public relations; talks, blog, published articles, ironed shirts, you get the idea. He has been a busy little bee this year and here is an article that was recently published that I want to share with you and especially any budding entrepreneurs:

http://vator.tv/news/2010-12-14-how-to-write-a-killer-deck-and-get-funded

What makes this article awesome is Paul Graham's response to it on Hacker News;

"Immad is one of the best at fundraising of all the alumni, so whatever he has to say about the topic is worth listening to."

Having a legend say something like this about my husband is really something to smile about. Immad will probably kill me for being so mushy but I am allowed to have my gushy-wife-moments!

*Big Grin*

JustSpotted: Keanu Reeves - EVERYWHERE.

Anyone that really knows me will also know that I am kinda crazy when it comes to Keanu Reeves, like totally obsessed with him. At one point (my early teenage years) I had every single photo of him available in the public domain (in print form). My bedroom was plastered with his image and my video collection boasted every obscure film he had starred in.

So you can imagine my delight when I turned up at the JustSpotted office party to find three of him, the party theme was; celeb-dress-up, JustSpotted are a celebrity focused start-up after all.

*Smile*

I only managed to be photographed with two out of the three Keanu's - Sorry Neo and Ted for drooling all over you but thank you so much for making my evening!

And remember everyone; Be excellent to each other.

Photos of Street Celebrations as San Francisco Giants Win the World Series

So there was a big roar in the middle of the afternoon. I live near the Stadium. The roar didn't stop for two hours, so Immad and I decide to investigate.

The SF Giants had won the World Series. There were street celebrations everywhere. The most popular theme was to hang out/ontop of the cars as they drove around cheering and beeping. Everyone was Hi5'ing everyone else - even dogs.

We stayed out for two hours - the cheers were going till 6am. Crazy.

See the rest of the photos I took on my main Facebook Profile: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=564194&id=803475337

Facebook Friendship Pages made me cry, it will probably make you cry too.

Facebook_friendship_page

Facebook has launched a new and very cool feature called Friendship Pages. Whenever a friend posts on your wall and vice versa you will see a little link that says; 'see friendship' - this takes you to a 'Friendship Page'. Friendship Pages is a wonderful way of remembering the depths of your relationship with people who you share your Facebook with.

When I viewed my relationship with my husband, Immad Akhund, Facebook pulled in our wedding photo as the main photo for our shared page. It also populated the page with events we had attended, comments we made and even Facebook Pages we had in common. This was a lovely nostalgia fueled trip down memory lane - especially good for Immad as his longterm memory sucks.

Facebook has become much more cluttered and this feature takes away the digging needed to see your relationship with a friend. You can also search and view relationships between your friends and their friends. But do not worry, people can only see the information that you have given access too.

Be warned this does get a little addictive. After 'aaawwwing' my way through mine and Immad's relationship, I looked at mine and my sisters, Mahumuda's Friendship Page. This time it made me cry a little, the last two events we had attended together was so long ago. She lives in London and I am here in San Francisco, yes I miss her a lot.

There are only a few people I would want to do this search for. Also the thought of mine and Immad's friends having access to view our Friendship Page freaks me out a little, for no other reason then the fact that they would probably feel nauseous from all the icky-love. In our defense these posts were made over the duration of 4 years and is presented in a more concentrated form on our Friendship Page.

*sick bucket please*

I can only see myself using Friendship Pages infrequently. I am uncertain if pushing this feature into such a prominent position (profile page under each wall post) is a brilliant idea. This feels more like a trend/fad then a integral feature. Friendship Pages would have defiantly made a killer application and will certainly increase user engagement but to be a vital organ it needs to perform a stronger function. It would be interesting to see if Facebook views this as a platform and allows others to build on top of it.

Everything aside, Facebook Friendship Pages brilliantly brings home the message that, Facebook is once again all about your friends.

Desi Dazzle - A dating website that is proud not to be Fresh.

Desidazzle
Quick note;

Since I have made my new site public, I should say something more...

Have you ever asked a desi women about her online dating experience? If you do, you will find a common theme.  For every 'normal' guy that contacts her, there are about 100 guys from the Indian subcontinent that has bombarded her with messages.

No matter what her partner contact setting, the freshies get around it. They are relentless in their pursit, a never ending tide of men, all wanting to 'make friendship'.

This is a huge problem in the South Asian online dating scene, for western raised desis.

The main issue with people from 'back-home' is just that, they grew up back there. They talk differently, they dress differently, they have different value systems, different expectations and different reasons for dating.

With all this in mind, I am setting up a dating website called:

Scattering stars like dust: Keep going, your dreams will come true.

Explosion-in-space-wallpaper

“We come spinning out of nothingness,

scattering stars like dust”.

I love this quote from Rumi.  It has been on my Facebook status for a number of days. Every time I read these words I get a sense of invincibility. Rumi empathizing the greatness of humanity. The universe bows, bends and breaks every time a person is born, such is our strength, such is our ability.

We are so powerful that when human life is created nothing is superior to us and we have the potential to shape the universe itself. The potential to achieve any dream we can imagine ourself.

I believe that each person has the ability to achieve anything that they truly desire. I also believe that humanity is wonderous. We all have different paths to our destination. But just keep on walking and you will hold all that you desire in the palm of your hands.

Rumi and Roddenberry believed that humanity and each individual was, and is great, we must never ever forget that.

All you need to do is dare to dream, and dare to work hard enough to make it come true.

scattering stars like dust”

Just saw this at the bottom of my Forever21 shopping bag. I googled John 3:16. This is what I found, from the Bible.

John 3:16 (New International Version)

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.".

Random photo from My Wedding.

One of the most searched term on my blog is 'Fatema Yasmine Wedding Photos'. Funnily enough I only have about three photos form my wedding day shared online. So I have decided to post some up. There were three events during the day, registration, nikah and reception. My husband and I decided to get married on our anniversary, the 22nd of September.

First: The Registry Office @ Islington Town Hall

Second: Nikah @ Regents Park Mosque

Third: Reception @ Nottinghill.

This photo is from the Registration. Will upload a full Wedding album later.

Little Fatema - Age 7ish (Photo)

Fatema_yasmine_baby

I have very few photos of when I was young. So I was super excited when my sister found this one, taken at school. I can hardly believe that it is me in this photo, baby teeth still in tact. Same annoying naturally tapering eye-brows. My face looks so young. Why the greasy hair? No I didn't have an accident with a tub of hair jell. I used to have super long hair that would tangle itself into a birds nest. To deal with this, my mother would cover me in coconut hair oil. This ritual continued even when my hair was cut shorter. Yes, that is right. Mother would send me to school with oil saturated hair. lol #DesiMumFail.

Thank you Heps for sending me this photo.

Love you really Mum.
